A: Royal Sovereign has determined that the product may pose a potential fire hazard.This recall is being conducted to keep consumers safe and to remove these portable air conditioners from the market.
Q: How can I tell if my portable air conditioner is affected by the recall?
A: Portable air conditioners with the below model numbers on their labels are subject to this recall: Royal Sovereign (Model No. PAC-3012, Model No. PAC-3012_RB) and Royal Centurian (Model No. ARP-3012, Model No. ARP-3012 KIT, Model No. ARP-3012S, Model No. ARP-3014, Model No. ARP - 3014 SC).
Q: How can I take advantage of the recall?
A. Please stop using your portable air conditioner immediately by properly severing the electrical cord rendering the unit unusable. Based on the year you purchased your portable air conditioner, you will receive a pro-rated refund.
Q: What is the problem with my portable air conditioner?
A: The recalled portable air conditioners contain a faulty drain motor that may ignite the plastic enclosure of the portable air conditioner units posing a fire hazard to consumers which could lead to serious injury or death. Royal Sovereign is aware of 11 incidents of these recalled portable air conditioners catching fire or smoking during use resulting in over $1 million in property damage, two injuries, and one death due to smoke inhalation.
Q: My portable air conditioner appears to be operating okay. Can I continue to use it?
A: No. Even though your portable air conditioner may appear to be safe, we are asking all customers to immediately stop using it and participate in the recall. Immediately stop use, unplug the unit, and properly sever the electrical cord to prevent further use. Failure to unplug the unit could result in shock, electrocution, or death.
Q: Will I receive a refund for the air conditioner?
A: Yes. You will receive a pro-rated refund based on the age of your portable air conditioner.
Q: How long will it take for me to receive the refund?
A: Please allow approximately 12-20 weeks from the date you contact Royal Sovereign. We apologize for any inconvenience, and assure you we are working as quickly as possible.
